TUNGA PENETRANS
tung1-ic
T.penetrans: adults (male and female) of T.penetrans measure
about 1 mm. in lenght and live in the sand.
After fertilization the female holds on the human skin
and invades the subcutaneous tissues forming a crypt.
(Adult male)

tung2-ic
T.penetrans: after penetration, the female increases in size to reach
the diameter of 0.5-1 cm., and contains a hundred of eggs.
(Gravid female)

T.penetrans: adult female.

T.penetrans: eggs measure about
650 µ in lenght.

tung4-ic
T.penetrans: the
lesion (s), usually located on the toes or under the feet,
are painful, indurated and tender, with a black central dot.

tung5-ic
T.penetrans: the
treatment consists on the exeresis of the entire intact insect.
The breaking of the Tunga may cause inflammation and possible infection.
(The cephalic extremity with the first pair of legs of a gravid female
extracted from the skin).
