PARABASALA Order:
Trichomonadida
TRICHOMONAS VAGINALIS
tv1-ic
Trichomonas vaginalis:
trophozoites live in vaginal cavity and urethra,
where they multiply when the vaginal condition is favourable (at pH 4).
Reproduction is by longitudinal fission.
(Trophozoite, fresh examination).

tv2-ic
Trichomonas vaginalis:
trophozoites are oval in shape, 10-23 µm in lenght,
with four anterior flagella of equal lenght and a fifth flagellum
on the margin of the short undulating membrane.
(Trophozoite, wet mount preparation).

tv3-ic
Trichomonas vaginalis: the
infection is usually acquired
by venereal contacts.
The male is the most important transmitter of the infection.
(Trophozoite, wet mount preparation).

tv4-ic

is responsible for vaginitis and urethral discharge.
Symptomatic infection is more common in women during the reproductive period.
Diagnosis is usually obtained by microscopic examination of urine,
vaginal or urethral discharge or swabs of prostatic secretions.
Culture is possible on diffrent media: cysteine-peptone-liver-maltose
and trypticase-yeast extract-maltose media.
(Trophozoite,wet mount preparation).

tv5-ic
Trichomonas vaginalis:
these flagellates are 10-30 µm in lenght and 6-20 µm in breadth. Flagella, nucleus, axostyle and undullating membrane are visible.
Filamentous form of Lactobacillus Döderleini is present.
Acute trichomoniasis. Vaginal smear, Giemsa-Romanowski stain.

Trichomonas vaginalis: T. vaginalis is
commonly seen in Papapanicolau smears
of the uterine cervix; flagella (in the form of filaments on one
pole of the parasite)
are visible in well preserved material; the male (urethra,
prostate) is considered
the carrier of the parasite ; although in women the inset of
cervicitis is the rule,
