      Dirofilaria sp. D.immitis and D. of the sub genus Nochtiella
      (repens, tenuis, ursi, subdermata) are parasites of mammals (dog)
      occasionally transmitted to man.
      Clinical manifestations include nodules in subcutaneous tissues,
      in muscles and in visceral organs.

      DF3-ic: Dirofilaria extracted from a thoracic subcutaneous nodule in a
      60 years old patient in Samara (Russia), region endemic for dirofilariasis

      diro2-ic

      Dirofilaria sp.: parasites develop in nodules;
      they do not produce microfilariae in man.
      Diagnosis is established by biopsy demonstrating the worm in host's tissues.
      Adults may measure up to 15 cm. long.

      diro-3-ic

      Dirofilaria sp.: species identification requires microscopic examination:
      ridged cuticule of D.repens measures 12-14 µm; in D.immitis
      the cuticule is slender (10-12 µm) and smooth.
      Muscles cells, lateral cord and utera are visible.
